On June 5, 2025, World Environment Day, NCC Army Wing (9 (K) Girls Battalion NCC, Calicut) of KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri conducted various programs with the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. The programs aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation and promote sustainable practices among NCC cadets and the college community, and to inspire action and encourage cadets to adopt eco-friendly habits.
The program was inaugurated by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Muhammed Basheer Ummathur, who planted a gooseberry tree near the college ground and emphasized the importance of environmental protection, the value of our planet, and the issue of plastic pollution. The activities included tree plantation by all cadets in their home surroundings, pledge-taking by cadets on ‘Say No to Single-Use Plastic’ as part of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change's initiative, and campus cleaning by cadets.
A talk was conducted on ‘The Plastic Footprint: How Everyday Products Harm the Planet’ via Google Meet, where Dr. Deepa P., Assistant Professor (Adhoc), PG and Research Department of Botany, shared insights on the importance of World Environment Day, plastic pollution, recycling, microplastics, and the impact of plastics in daily life.
A total of 33 second-year cadets actively participated in the program, which was coordinated by Lt. Loosiya KP, Associate NCC Officer, and L/CPL Rishwa P (3rd Sem BA History), faculty and student coordinators, respectively. The program was a success, with cadets gaining awareness about environmental conservation and developing a sense of responsibility towards protecting the planet. Additionally, the program inspired cadets to adopt eco-friendly habits and make a positive impact on their surroundings.
